I must admit--going to Fiji this time was an absolute
wonderful experience!! Last time I went (14 months ago), was for my
daughter's wedding and was somewhat stressful.
This time--I truly understand when they say "Fiji
time."
California time is 19 hours behind Fiji (5 hours
ahead, one day behind). My body clock may never be the same!!
However--it was relaxing, peaceful and the kind of weather one could
only dream of on vacation! The weather was like late spring, neither hot
not cold, but a cool breeze off the water. It rained some, but it made
for a lazy day. It didn't spoil anything at all!
Angie (my daughter's friend) was so funny--about
motion sickness. I usually have no trouble whatsoever, but take-offs
were a killer for her and I laughed and fanned her like crazy! I love to
fly, go boating, etc. so I find myself as caretaker in these kind of
situations. No big deal as long as you don't mind being laughed at!
Angie is a good sport! She has been a good friend to my daughter and is
a likable sort (elementary school teacher).
By the way--Serevi plays rugby and we got to see a
game while in Fiji. Angie had never seen a rugby game before and was
excited to see Serevi play. The funny part was, she kept yelling at the
referees to "do their job" and stop all the rough play. I thought she
was going to scold the players for playing too rough! She wants to take
up a collection to buy them protective padding!! We kept telling her
"that's how rugby is played--a lot like American football without the
protective gear!" She was horrified! It was so funny to watch her!!
We were taken around Nadi (pronounced nan-dee) and
Latoka (la-to-ka) to shop and see Fiji life (not just as
a tourist). I loved that part best. To see why my daughter really loves
the islands so much and to meet friends and family. They are truly a very
friendly people!
The two weeks went by way too fast. I missed Carl like
crazy, but I hadn't seen my daughter for 14 months! I held my grandson
constantly. I am not certain when I will get to see him again. My
son-in-law is a wonderful husband and father and truly loves his family.
I couldn't ask for more. However--my baby is so far away...
Thank you for allowing to me babble on!! It is good to
be home and back at the Glass House. Thank you for all the wonderful
thoughts (and prayers) while I was away.
AND--thank you guys for keeping Carl out of trouble!!
You know who you are!
